When to Go

Scottsdale is playable 12 months a year. But “playable” and “ideal” are two different conversations. Here is what each window actually looks like.

January through April

Peak Season

This is when Scottsdale earns its reputation. Average highs range from 68 to 88 degrees with near-zero chance of rain. Courses are in their best shape -- overseeded, freshly groomed, greens running fast. The WM Phoenix Open in early February turns TPC Scottsdale into a party, and the rest of the Valley benefits from the energy.

The tradeoff is price and availability. This is when everyone wants to be in Scottsdale, so tee times at popular courses book out weeks in advance and green fees are at their peak. If your group is flexible on dates, late March and April offer slightly lower demand with the same weather.

MonthAvg HighAvg LowRain DaysDemand
January68°F45°F3High
February72°F48°F3Very High
March78°F53°F3High
April85°F59°F1Moderate-High

May through September

Summer / Budget Season

It is hot. There is no way around it. June through August regularly hits 110 degrees. But Scottsdale golf does not shut down -- it shifts. Tee times start at 5:30 or 6:00 AM, and serious golfers are off the course by 11:00. Green fees at top courses drop 50-70% from peak rates, which means you can play TPC Scottsdale for under $100.

The monsoon season (mid-July through September) brings dramatic afternoon thunderstorms that cool temperatures into the 90s by evening. Mornings are still hot but playable. If your group is budget-conscious and can handle early starts, summer is an underrated window. The private house with a pool becomes essential -- afternoons are for recovering in the water with a cold drink.

MonthAvg HighAvg LowRain DaysDemand

June107°F77°F0Very Low
July106°F83°F4Very Low
August104°F82°F5Low
September100°F76°F3Low-Moderate

October through December

Value Season (Best Deal)

This is the window I recommend most often. Temperatures drop into the 70s and 80s. Courses have completed their fall overseeding and maintenance. Green fees are 30-50% below peak rates. Tee time availability is excellent, and pace of play is noticeably faster with fewer tourists on the courses.

Early October can still feel warm (highs in the mid-90s), but by late October you are in ideal conditions. November and December are excellent -- crisp mornings that warm into comfortable afternoons. The holiday weeks (Thanksgiving, Christmas) see a temporary spike in demand, but the rest of the window is wide open. If you have flexibility on dates, this is the smartest time to book.

Where to Stay

For golf groups, the lodging decision comes down to two options: hotel rooms or a private house. We are biased -- we own the houses -- but the case is straightforward.

FactorHotelPrivate House
Cost (group of 8, 4 nights)$3,200-$6,400 (4 rooms)Included in package
Common SpaceHotel lobbyLiving room, patio, pool, kitchen
NoiseQuiet hours enforcedYour house, your rules
Morning StagingMeet in the lobby, wait for everyoneCoffee on the patio, driver pulls up when you are ready
Post-RoundBack to separate roomsPool, grill, cold fridge, group space
Food StorageMini-fridgeFull kitchen, stocked before arrival
PrivacyShared with other guestsExclusive to your group
LocationScottsdale resort corridorScottsdale residential, 20-30 min to all courses

The private house changes the dynamic of a golf trip. Instead of splitting into hotel rooms at the end of the day, your group stays together. The fridge is stocked. The pool is private. The patio is where the best stories from the round get retold. For bachelor parties, the house is non-negotiable -- no noise complaints, no split rooms, no awkward encounters with families in the hallway.

Our properties accommodate 4 to 10 guests (up to 16 by combining houses). Each is maintained by our team, cleaned daily during your stay, and equipped with everything a golf group needs. See our properties page for details on each house.

What to Budget

The per-person cost of a Scottsdale golf trip varies dramatically depending on how you plan it. Here is an honest breakdown of what each tier looks like in practice.

TierPer PersonIncludesBest For
DIY Budget$1,500-$2,000Airfare, Airbnb split, rental car, 3 rounds at mid-tier courses, restaurantsPrice-first groups
DIY Mid-Range$2,500-$3,500Airfare, hotel, rental car, 3-4 rounds at premium courses, steakhouse dinners, UbersGroups willing to plan their own logistics
Concierge: The Getaway$700-$8003 nights, private house, 3 rounds, course transport, airport pickup, concierge planningValue-conscious groups who want zero logistics
Concierge: The Full Send$1,100-$1,3004 nights, private house, 4 rounds, private driver, stocked fridge, dinner reservationsGroups who want everything handled
Concierge: The Experience$1,800-$2,2004-5 nights, private house, 4-5 rounds, dedicated vehicle and driver, golf host, steakhouse, cigarsGroups who want the full treatment

A Note on the Math

The concierge packages do not include airfare. Add $200-$600 for flights depending on your origin city and booking window. When you compare apples to apples, The Full Send at $1,100-$1,300 per person (plus airfare) often costs less than the DIY mid-range approach -- and you do not spend 15 hours in a group chat debating logistics. The difference is that we negotiate bulk rates on tee times, own the houses outright (no nightly rental markup), and operate our own vehicles.

Which Courses to Book

Course selection depends on your group's skill level, budget, and priorities. Here is a quick guide. For the full breakdown, read our best courses guide.

Low Handicaps (0-10)

Troon North Monument, We-Ko-Pa Saguaro, Quintero, Whisper Rock. These courses demand precision and reward shot-making. Quintero is the best value in this tier.

Mid Handicaps (10-20)

Grayhawk Raptor, TPC Stadium, We-Ko-Pa Cholla, Troon North Pinnacle. Challenging but not punishing. Good variety and memorable holes throughout.

High Handicaps (20+)

Talking Stick O’odham, Grayhawk Talon, Pinnacle Peak. Wide fairways, forgiving layouts, and courses that are fun without being demoralizing.

Mixed Groups

Grayhawk (great 19th hole for socializing), Talking Stick (two course styles), We-Ko-Pa (beauty levels the playing field). Focus on courses where the experience matters more than the scorecard.

Getting Around

Scottsdale is not a walkable city. The courses are spread across a 30-mile radius, restaurants are scattered, and Old Town nightlife is a separate destination from most lodging. You have three options.

OptionCostProsCons
Rental Car$300-$500 totalFull independence, available 24/7Someone drives, someone does not drink. Parking logistics at courses and restaurants. DUI risk after dinner.
Rideshare (Uber/Lyft)$30-$60/rideNo parking, no designated driverSurge pricing after events. Long waits in non-central areas. Fitting golf bags in a sedan. Cost adds up fast for a group.
Private Driver (our service)Included in Full Send+Door to door, all day. No DUI risk. No GPS. No arguments. Handles golf bags, dinner, nightlife.Only available through our packages.

The safety angle deserves emphasis. Scottsdale PD runs DUI checkpoints regularly, especially near Old Town and along the main corridors. After a steakhouse dinner with drinks, or a night out on Saddlebag Trail, having a driver is not a luxury -- it is risk management. One DUI arrest costs more than every package we offer combined, plus the trip is over.

Dining in Scottsdale

Scottsdale punches above its weight on food. Here are the spots we book most often for golf groups.

Steak 44

Steakhouse · $$$$ · Reservations Required

The best steakhouse in Scottsdale, and arguably in Arizona. The 44 oz. porterhouse is built for sharing. The cocktail program is serious. Book 2-3 weeks ahead during peak season. This is where we take groups on their big dinner night.

Mastro’s City Hall

Steakhouse · $$$$ · Reservations Required

A Scottsdale institution. Warm butter cake for dessert is mandatory. The live piano bar downstairs sets the tone for the evening. Slightly more old-school atmosphere than Steak 44 -- which is not a bad thing.

Diego Pops

Mexican · $$ · Walk-in Friendly

The best casual dinner in Old Town. Creative tacos, strong margaritas, a patio that stays lively without being obnoxious. Perfect for the first night when nobody wants a 3-hour dinner.

The Mission

Latin-Inspired · $$$ · Reservations Recommended

Set in a converted church in Old Town, The Mission does Latin- inspired cuisine that surprises people who expected another Southwestern restaurant. The tableside guacamole is a group experience. Good for a second-night dinner when the steakhouse has already been checked off.

Hash Kitchen

Brunch · $$ · Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary Bar

The build-your-own bloody mary bar is absurd in the best way. For groups with a late tee time or a rest day, this is the move. Weekend brunch gets busy -- arrive by 9:30 or expect a wait.

Citizen Public House

American · $$$ · Reservations Recommended

A chef-driven gastropub that does not feel like a gastropub. The pork belly and whiskey list are both excellent. More refined than casual, but not stuffy. This is a safe bet for groups where not everyone wants steak every night.

Packing List

Golf Essentials (All Seasons)

  • Golf shoes (soft spikes required at most courses)
  • Collared shirts (2-3, courses enforce dress codes)
  • Golf shorts or pants
  • Sunglasses (polarized recommended)
  • Sunscreen (SPF 50+, desert sun is no joke)
  • Golf glove (bring 2, they wear faster in dry heat)
  • Rangefinder or GPS watch
  • Clubs (or arrange premium rentals through us)

Off-Course

  • Casual dinner attire (collared shirt, no jeans at steakhouses)
  • Comfortable walking shoes for Old Town
  • Swim trunks (every house has a pool)
  • Light jacket (October through March, mornings are cool)
  • Chapstick with SPF (desert air is dry)
  • Reusable water bottle (hydration matters at altitude)

Summer Additions (May-Sep)

  • Wide-brim hat (not just a cap)
  • Cooling towel
  • Extra water (1 liter per 9 holes minimum)
  • Light, breathable fabrics only

Winter Additions (Nov-Feb)

  • Light pullover or quarter-zip for early tee times
  • Long pants (mornings can be 45-50 degrees)
  • Beanie or ear cover for December/January mornings

Book It or Build It

You can absolutely plan a Scottsdale golf trip yourself. People do it every week. The question is whether you want to spend 10-15 hours in a group chat comparing hotels, debating courses, and arguing about who books the rental car -- or whether you want to send one message with your dates and group size and have the entire trip handed back to you.

The DIY approach works when one person in the group is willing to be the trip planner. That person handles tee time research, lodging comparisons, restaurant reservations, rental car logistics, and the inevitable text thread where someone asks “so what is the plan for Tuesday?” for the fourth time.

The concierge approach works when nobody wants that job. We have the relationships, the houses, the vehicles, and the local knowledge. You get a custom itinerary, a single point of contact, and a trip where the only decision you make each day is which set of tees to play.

The surprising part is the cost. Because we own the properties and negotiate bulk tee times, our all-inclusive packages often cost the same or less than a well-planned DIY trip -- minus the 15 hours of planning. That is not a sales pitch. It is math.

Scottsdale Golf Trip FAQ

How far in advance should I book a Scottsdale golf trip?
For peak season (January through April), book 6-8 weeks ahead. Value season (October through December) is more forgiving -- 3-4 weeks is usually fine. Summer trips can be planned with 1-2 weeks notice. If you want a specific private house or a private course like Desert Mountain, plan further ahead.
Is Scottsdale worth it for a golf trip?
If you care about course quality, weather reliability, and variety, yes. Within a 30-minute radius you can play 15+ courses that rank among the best in the country. The infrastructure for golf travel (courses, restaurants, nightlife, airport proximity) is unmatched in the U.S. outside of maybe Pinehurst. The desert setting is also a dramatic change from most golf destinations.
What is the cheapest time to golf in Scottsdale?
June through August. Green fees at top courses drop 50-70% from peak rates. Some courses offer rounds under $50. The tradeoff is heat -- you need to tee off before 7 AM. September and early October also offer strong value with more comfortable temperatures.
Can I bring non-golfers on the trip?
Absolutely. Scottsdale has spas, hiking (Camelback Mountain, Tom's Thumb), Old Town shopping, and excellent restaurants. The private house setup works well for mixed groups -- golfers head to the course while everyone else enjoys the pool and the town. We can arrange separate activities for non-golfers.
Do I need to rent a car in Scottsdale?
If you book through us, no. Every package includes course transport, and The Full Send and above include a private driver for everything -- golf, dinner, nightlife. If you are planning independently, a rental car is necessary. Scottsdale is spread out and public transit does not reach the courses.
How many rounds can I play in a day?
Two is comfortable if you start early. Three is physically possible but not recommended unless your group is in excellent shape and does not mind rushed rounds. We typically schedule one round per day with a double-header on one day for groups that want maximum golf.
What airports fly into Scottsdale?
Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX) is the main airport, about 20 minutes from Scottsdale. Direct flights are available from most major U.S. cities. Scottsdale Airport (SDL) handles private and charter flights. We pick up from both.
Is Scottsdale safe?
Scottsdale is one of the safest cities in Arizona. Old Town is walkable at night. The areas around the golf courses and private residences are well-maintained and secure. The biggest safety concern for golf groups is honestly DUI enforcement -- Scottsdale police are aggressive about it, which is one reason our driver service exists.
